Book Challenge: Instagram Followers Pick My TBR

Oh hi! Happy to see you here again!

First things first, credit where credit is due section! This idea comes from the only BookTube channel I listen to: BooksandLala (click the link to check out her channel)

I’ll link the video which gave me the inspiration to attempt a similar challenge. (Click the link to see the OG video; also, Kayla mentions she got the idea for her video from Safyia N. Just trying to cover all the credit bases here!)

I stumbled onto this video from BooksandLala, in which she checks out the first five books that Instagram suggested, scrolling through her feed and buying those suggestions that she hadn’t heard of before and then reading the first few chapters to see if they recommended books were well designed based on her tastes.56191362_264909297725286_5552882428663562240_n.png

After seeing it, I couldn’t stop wondering how that challenge would work out for me, would the books be perfectly fitted with my interest? or would I get a bunch of books I wouldn’t have picked up if not of this experiment? I might try out the Instagram feed version of the challenge in the future, but for this first attempt, I decided to turn to my Instagram followers and have them pick out my TBR!

Using the sticker question option, I asked my followers to recommend a book. I got worried, wondering what would be suggested, wondering if I would regret launching this entire challenge.

Here are the first five books that were suggested:

  • The Hating Game by Sally Thorne
  • Slammerkin by Emma Donoghue
  • Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid
  • My Grandmother Sends Her Regards and Apologises by Fredrik Backman
  • On Beauty by Zadie Smith

(I received a few more recommendations after these, some of which I will most likely pick up at some point.)

So why let a bunch of different people pick out my TBR?

My thought it that hopefully, I’ll discover new books I haven’t heard of yet, or have books I noticed but wasn’t prioritizing and end up falling in love with. Also, I always find it fascinating to see what people recommend.

Predictions

So for funsies, I’ve decided to share my predictions, see if any of the picks will surprise me or if I end up enjoying them (or not) as I initially thought.

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne

56337199_420583102075216_2358644572646539264_n.jpgI’ve seen this book everywhere, and still have yet to pick it up. Everyone I know loves it, raves about it, talk it up Ad nauseam. The reason I haven’t read it yet is simple, I am not a fan of romance books. I used to think it was because I was bitter old single person and the happiness and joy of others was of no interest to me, but I have been in a committed relationship for a while now, and turns out, I still don’t care. I’m still excited about this one, to see what the hype is about but my prediction is I’ll be in the unpopular few that won’t absolutely love this book.

Slammerkin by Emma Donoghue

56201243_430068357744847_5272773736884338688_n.jpgTo be honest, I have never heard of this book. I read the book “Room” by this author before the movie came out, and I had to read it in two days because I couldn’t sleep the first night while read it, it was giving me nightmares. That being said, I loved the book, I thought it was well written and really captivating. I’m not the biggest fan of historical fiction, I don’t enjoy books set way in the past. I think I will enjoy this book due to the authors writing, but it might take me a while to get into.

Daisy Jones & The Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid

55869435_454550778417825_7962786929181720576_n.jpgI’m not going to lie folks, I’m thrilled this book came up. I’ve got friends looking out for me for sure. I’ve been anticipating this read since it was announced. I pre-ordered this in January. I’ve been beyond excited to read the next book by Taylor Jenkins Reid. Her book, “The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo” has become one of my all time favorite books. “Daisy Jones & The Six” seems to have just about everything I love. I love music and especially rock and roll. I love a tell all type story. I’m so excited to read this book it’s ridiculous.

My Grandmother Sends Her Regards and Apologises by Fredrik Backman

Disclaimer time. This was the cleverest submission I received. I borrowed this book from my mom ages ago, and she always asks me if I’ve read it and to bring it back to her and I keep pushing this book out. So she found a way to get me to pull it back up the top of my TBR and give it back to her. Kudos Mom, well played. I love Fredrik Backman, “A Man Called Ove” was such an emotional read for me and I fell so in love with the main character and his story. I think the only reason I’m putting off this book, was that Backman’s novel “Beartown” was extremely difficult emotionally, it’s an important novel, I think everyone should read it, but it was a hard one, and I think I wasn’t ready to dive back into his works. My prediction is once I get started, I’ll get wrapped up in this story and will end up loving it.

On Beauty by Zadie Smith

This will be my first Zadie Smith novel. I’ve meant to read her some of her works but it hasn’t come up yet! This is perfect opportunity to dive into one of her novels. I’ll be super honest, I have no idea what it’s about, so it’s hard for me to predict if I’ll love it or not so the prediction will be a nice little middle grade range to be safe.

Within the next month or so I’ll be reading these five books, it might take me a while cause most of these a hunky novels. I think the greatest challenge for me will be just getting to it since I am what you call a MAJOR mood reader but I’m excited for this!

Thanks for everyone who helped picked out, those who suggestion I’m reading let me know on Instagram if you wan me to mention you in my wrap up!

Tell me which book you’d like to read first and let me know if there are any challenges you want me to try out!

Go curl up with a book and relax!
